need to build a future based on the security of peace and not on
silence"
Summary
from El Día (Toledo), November 23rd, 2001
The
Chairman of the Fundación Cultura de Paz encouraged young people "to
remain firm in solidarity and not giving up",
as "today we launch a shout of hope and request the transition to a
culture of peace". Mayor Zaragoza
emphasized that "this change of culture should be promoted in educational schools among parents, students and teachers" in order
that "in ten years we can say it was possible: that violence is unnecessary and
we can use the
dialogue to understand each other".
Mr.
José Bono, President of the Autonomous Community, highlighted that the
educational world is the most appropriate one to spread the tolerance values, as he
assures in his
speech, "tolerance is a value which is learned both at home and
at school; otherwise we will never learn it". Paraphrasing
Martin Luther King Jr., Bono urged the students who attended this

The Autonomous Region of Navarra and its educational schools joined the Manifesto 2000 for
a Culture of Peace and Non Violence
The
Government of Navarra and its educational schools signed the Manifesto 2000
on December 10th of this year, following the initiative promoted by the
Fundación Cultura de Paz.
Europa
Press
The
Manifesto 2000, which was drafted by a group
of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, has already been signed by over 72 million people
all over the world. The Chairman of the Fundación Cultura de
Paz,
Federico Mayor Zaragoza, was adamant with regard to the importance of
"creating, even inventing, our own attitudes, our own answers, with
respect to our attitude
during centuries following the Roman proverb si vis pacem, para
bellum (if
you want peace, prepare for war), with the consequences that we all know". Federico Mayor Zaragoza recommended
to reduce the “male predominance in the world” and to recover the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The President of the
Autonomous Region of Navarra, Mr. Miguel Sanz
stated that there was no need to justify adhesion to the Manifesto because
there always are enough reasons recommending to have an
active attitude against violence". He also recalled that the Parliament of Navarra
adopted a resolution for promoting
the culture of peace at schools of the Autonomous Region and that
the Fundación Cultura de Paz coincides with this initiative.
