PRESENTATION
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the “Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace” by the U.N. General Assembly, the Foundation for a Culture of Peace, in close partnership with Inter Press Service (IPS) news agency, has launched the initiative “10 years of Culture of Peace... 10 articles of Culture of Peace”
This initiative is about a series of ten articles written by renowned international figures such as Federico Mayor, Mário Soares, Wangari Maathai, José Saramago, Gunnar Stålsett, Roberto Savio and Anwarul K. Chowdhury. The articles reflect and debate the culture of peace in its multiple dimensions, including its relationship with media, education, youth, religion, the environment and human rights.
This initiative goes beyond a simple tenth anniversary and aims at creating
spaces for reflection and the promotion of the necessary transformations at all
levels. The objective of the initiative is to go from a culture of imposition,
force and war to a culture of dialogue, justice, cooperation and peace.
The participation of IPS in this project guarantees a wide impact through the
international media and contributes the added value of journalist excellence to
the initiative.
At the same time, agreements have been made with an important number of written media (newspapers, magazines, blogs, etc…) in order to ensure a wide distribution of the articles, especially in some spaces that otherwise would have not been reached.
